About Prof. Srikanta Patnaik：Prof. Srikanta Patnaik is a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering in SOA University, Bhubaneswar, India. He received his Ph.D. in Engineering in the year 1999 from Jadavpur University, Calcutta, India. He has published more than 100 technical papers in the national/ international journals and magazines of repute. He is the invited author of the chapter entitled “Cognition Methods and Their Applications in Robotics published by Kluwer Academic Press, USA. Prof. Patnaik is also the Editor of the volume on “Innovations in Machine Intelligence and Robot Perception” and “Machine Learning and Robot Perception” and “Soft Computing techniques in Vision Science” published by SPRINGER, Germany. He is also the author of the book “Robot Cognition and Navigation: Experiment with mobile Robot” published from SPRINGER, Germany.

He has acted as Principal Investigator of many projects sponsored by All India Council for Technical Education and University Grants Commission. He is a member of several professional bodies of India and abroad. He has been awarded with the MHRD Fellowship for the year 1995 and his name has been placed in the MARQUIS Who’s Who in the World for the 2004. He has been awarded as the International Educator of the Year 2005, by International Biographical Centre, Great Britain. Presently, he is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Information and Communication Technology and International Journal of Computational Vision and Robotics, published by Inderscience Publishing House, England.

Prof. Srikanta Patnaik, had been to China on an invitation from International Conference on Engineering Education and Management (ICEEM2011)”, during November 18-20, 2011, in Guangzhou, China. He has delivered Key Note at International Conference on Informatics for Development 2011sponsored by UNESCO on November 26th 2011 to be held at Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Prof. Patnaik has also delivered Key Note address at International Conference on Information System for Business Competitiveness 2011 at Diponegoro University, Indonesia during December 8-9, 2011.

About Lecturer：Cognitive Science is an interdisciplinary field that has arisen during the past decade at the intersection of a number of existing disciplines, including psychology, linguistics, computer science, philosophy, and physiology. The shared interest that has produced this coalition understands the nature of the mind. This quest is an old one, dating back to antiquity in the case of philosophy, but new ideas are emerging from the fresh approach of Cognitive Science.

The field of cognitive science overlaps AI. Cognitive scientists study the nature of intelligence from a psychological point of view, mostly building computer models that help elucidate what happens in our brains during problem solving, remembering, perceiving, and other psychological processes. One major contribution of AI and cognitive science to psychology has been the information processing model of human thinking in which the metaphor of brain-as-computer is taken quite literally.
